Tasting Notes

Black-red, pronounced smoky blackcurrant nose, shows freshness of fruit with good length and good grip, classy for the medium term. Drink 2012-20. 4 stars.

Decanter Magazine

Yields of just 32hl/ha. Only 2003 produced less. Picked young Merlots 18-20 Sep and then 1-9 Oct for older Cabernets. Very dark. Rich and round and a bit forced and sweet and furry. Very angular and green. Round and a bit simple.

Jancis Robinson

Impressive concentration for the vintage, with plenty of currant and berry on the nose and palate. Medium-to-full body, fine tannins and a medium finish. Well done for the vintage.

James Suckling

Cropped at 34hl/ha, this has a deep garnet/purple colour. The nose is very closed at first but begins to show some attractive oyster shell aromas interwoven with the cedary black fruits. Something of estuarine about it: cockle sheds? The palate has good acidity, fine tannins, very tight, perhaps lacking a little depth but good acidity and clarity on the finish. Supple and engaging - a "correct" Pichon-Baron. Tasted April 2008.
